Parents and carers newsletter week 8

Dear Parents/Carers,

It is hard to believe that we are now half way through our eighth week of lockdown. I hope you are all managing to stay safe and well.

Last week I worked in the Motherwell hub. It was lovely to see some Ladywell children there. We had a fun week, with a party at the end of the week to celebrate VE Day. The children even managed to have fun on a bouncy castle, one at a time to ensure social distancing was strictly observed! The teachers and staff working at the hub are really good at reminding the children of the importance of social distancing and, of course, encouraging them to regularly wash their hands. I think this will be our new normal as we make plans for the future.

With regards to the future, I do not yet have any information regarding a timeframe for returning to school. I know that right now the media is full of information regarding the return of schools in England. This does not apply to Scotland. We need to wait for a decision from Scottish Government and, at the moment, the decision is that we remain closed.

Also, I have no information yet as to what the school day will look like whenever we do return.

If, and when, I have any further information I will communicate with parents immediately.

In the meantime, teachers will continue to post learning activities for your child to complete. Some parents have expressed confusion as these activities are being posted on twitter, on the class blog and on Microsoft Teams. Please be assured that the activities that are posted on these three platforms are all the same. We are simply trying to put the information out in as many ways as we can so that everyone can access it. Just choose the one platform that works for you and you will still get all the information.

Please remember, however, that there is no expectation that your child completes all of the activities posted. Please just do what you can, just do whatever feels right for your family. On our return to school, whenever that may be, we will work hard to fill any “learning gaps” that may appear as a result of the school closure. The priority just now must be to keep your children safe and secure.

Parents have also expressed difficulties with accessing the learning due to not having access to technology. If that is a problem for you, please get in touch with either your child’s class teacher or myself as we can support this by lending an IPad or laptop from the school.

Over the past few weeks I have been having virtual staff meetings, checking in with teaching staff and offering the opportunity for them to “meet” with each other. It has been an interesting way of working. I am also planning a virtual Parent Council meeting within the next couple of weeks.

As the lockdown continues I will be trying to contact as many parents as I can, just to “check in” however, if you require any help or support, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am happy to help in any way I can.

Please continue to stay safe!
