I hope this letter finds you all safe and well.
Having just listened to the First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, giving her speech on the roadmap out of lockdown, I thought it appropriate to write to offer you all some information on how we will achieve what she has set out.
It has been decided that children will return to school in August on a part time basis, with some learning taking place in school and some continuing to take place at home.
It was also announced that school staff will be allowed in to the school building at some point in June to prepare for the return of the children.
I am currently working on plans which take account of the environment and open plan layout of our school. I am looking at the number of children who can be taught within the building at any one time, ensuring appropriate physical distancing is in place. At the forefront of this planning is the health and safety of children and staff.
In my planning I am also taking into consideration family groups to ensure, where possible, that siblings will attend school on the same days.
As I am sure you can appreciate, this is quite a difficult task as there are many factors to consider. However, as soon as I have a confirmed and acceptable plan in place I will communicate it with all parents.
The First Minister also stated that there would be transition support for children beginning Primary 1 and for our Primary 7 pupils making the move to secondary school. At the moment, I do not know what this will look like. In the meantime I know that the secondary schools are continuing to post transition information on line through our school website and twitter. I have, this morning, contacted the parents of our new Primary 1 children to share information with them also.
As we move forward to this new way of working I will continue to update you with information as and when I have it.
Please continue to contact me if you have any concerns that you wish to discuss.
