A Story about Antibodies and Viruses (for Children)
Buddy to the Rescue
By Dr Carolyn Begg
Dear Head Teacher and School Staff,
I hope you don’t mind me contacting you but I wanted to offer you free resources.
I am a lecturer at University of the West of Scotland (UWS) – feeling helpless, it struck me that due to a pet project of mine, I have resources that you might find useful for anyone caring / responsible for young children.
The resources include:
(1) a short picture story for young children, which is a gentle introduction to how our antibodies protect us from invaders such as viruses(attached as a pdf or see link below),
(2) a slightly more action packed animation of my story, which I commissioned (quite a while back) from a newly graduated UWS animation student(see link below).
So during these anxious times, I would be very pleased, if you found any use for these resources. Feel free to distribute or pass on. (to teachers/parents/carers)
Best wishes and thanks to you and your staff working through this very difficult period.
Dr Carolyn Begg

If you are like me you might be using some of your time at home to have a clear out. If you are thinking of recycling any school clothes, gym shoes or jackets please hold onto them until we return to school.
Many families will be affected financially by the Coronavirus pandemic, so when we are back to normal I plan to have a “help yourself” stall for school uniform clothes where parents can take whatever items are needed to help kit their child/children out for school.
For this to be successful I will be asking for donations of school uniforms that are no longer needed. Also, if you have any school bags that are still in good condition please hold onto them too as I am sure someone will be able to make good use of them.
I am writing to offer a sincere apology for
the unfortunate interruption to our Sing a Long session this morning.
Miss Girvan set this opportunity up for the
children to enable them to interact with one another and with some of our staff.
It was a lovely idea and the children were
enthusiastically joining in. Unfortunately, it seems we have some very depraved
individuals in society and the chat seems to have been hacked. As a result, a
very inappropriate image presented on the screen.
Miss Girvan immediately closed the chat.
I am hopeful that our children did not see
the image, however I sincerely apologise if they did.
Please be assured that we will do our
utmost to ensure that this does not happen again.
Please note that you will now be able to leave a comment on our class pages in the home learning section. We would ask that your posts are relevant and respectful as they can be seen by other adults and children visiting the site.
